Mr Hockey served in the Australian Parliament for nearly twenty years, holding a range of senior ministerial portfolios including Financial Services, Health and Welfare Delivery, Employment and Workplace Relations, and Small Business and Tourism. Throughout his parliamentary career, he was entrusted with major economic and social reform responsibilities and played a key role in shaping national policy.
He later served as Treasurer of Australia — the second most senior office in the Australian Government — with responsibility for managing the Australian economy during a period of sustained growth and global uncertainty.
In 2014, Mr Hockey chaired the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, the premier forum for international economic cooperation, bringing together the world’s leading economic policymakers.
Following his parliamentary career, Mr Hockey was appointed Australia’s Ambassador to the United States, the nation’s most senior diplomatic post. Serving under both President Obama and President Trump, he was instrumental in advancing Australia’s economic and strategic interests, including successfully negotiating outcomes with the Trump Administration on issues such as refugee resettlement arrangements and securing exemptions from US tariffs and quotas.
Today, Mr Hockey provides strategic and tactical advice to businesses and governments on infrastructure, investment, geopolitics, trade, cyber security and regulatory environments. He is a Visiting Fellow at American University and advises the World Bank and member countries around the world.
