John Doyle is an acclaimed actor, comedian, screenwriter, and cultural icon, best known as “Rampaging Roy Slaven” of Roy and HG fame (This Sporting Life, Club Buggery, The Dream, The Dream in Athens). A versatile performer, John has entertained audiences across radio, television, and theatre for decades, earning a reputation for sharp wit, creativity, and incisive commentary on Australian culture.
As a screenwriter, John’s credits include the highly acclaimed ABC miniseries Changi and Marking Time, as well as the documentary series Two Men in a Tinnie and Two Men in the Top End, which he co-created with Michael Cordell, exploring Australia’s landscapes and environmental challenges alongside biologist Tim Flannery. His first play, The Pig Iron People, premiered with the Sydney Theatre Company in 2008.
John’s outstanding contributions to Australian culture have been recognised with eight Australian Writers Guild (AWGIE) awards, multiple Logies, a 2004 AFI Award for Best Television Screenplay, and an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Newcastle. He is also Patron of Spectrum Australia (ASPECT).
