Peter Wells is a broadcaster, athlete and adventurer whose career combines high-profile media experience with extraordinary personal achievement.
Best known as the charming and inquisitive presenter on Channel 7’s top-rating travel program Sydney Weekender, Pete has taken audiences on adventures ranging from dolphin spotting and circus trapeze training to swinging through forests on Tarzan ropes. His natural curiosity, professionalism and on-camera confidence have made him a familiar and trusted face on Australian television.
Highly sought after as a Master of Ceremonies and event host, Pete brings a confident, polished presence balanced with an approachable, down-to-earth style. His friendly nature and unmistakable “Aussie bloke” charm give him immediate audience appeal across corporate events, awards nights and large-scale functions.
As a keynote speaker, Pete captivates audiences with his gripping account of climbing Mount Everest, an achievement that made national news and was featured on Channel 7’s Sunday Night program. His story is one of resilience, preparation, teamwork and pushing beyond perceived limits, delivered with authenticity and humility.
Throughout his broadcasting career, Pete has interviewed an impressive range of high-profile figures including the late motor racing legend Peter Brock, world surfing champion Layne Beachley, INXS’ Kirk Pengilly, Sonia Kruger, Glenn A. Baker, Jane Fleming, Kamahl, former Prime Minister John Howard, John Doyle (The Rampaging Roy Slaven) and Ronnie Johns.
Pete was formerly a presenter for Commonwealth Bank TV, hosting segments broadcast via satellite to more than 35,000 staff nationwide, and interviewing figures such as Australian cricketer Mike Hussey and former CEO Ralph Norris. He has also travelled Australia as MC and on-camera presenter for the national launch of the Hyundai i30, partnered with GORE-TEX to launch new high-tech apparel, and regularly hosts the annual Commonwealth Bank Charity Ball, raising funds for The Clown Doctors.
An accomplished endurance athlete, Pete is an Ocean Ironman, Coolangatta Gold competitor and ocean paddler. In December 2009, he completed a demanding 345km ocean paddle down the NSW coastline to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia. His adventures also include climbing the world’s sixth-highest mountain in Tibet, surfing remote breaks in Indonesia, visiting nomads in the Sahara Desert by camel, and trekking extensively through the Himalayas.
Beyond media and adventure, Pete holds a Degree in Applied Science (Environmental Health) and a Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning. A qualified town planner and building inspector, he has worked as an environmental scientist and auditor, health and building surveyor, and health administrator.
