Amelia Farrugia is one of Australia’s best-loved sopranos, renowned for her extraordinary vocal talent and versatility. Since her opera debut in 1994, she has sung many leading roles for Opera Australia and performed with major orchestras, both in Australia and internationally. Amelia’s career has seen her collaborate with distinguished conductors such as Richard Bonynge, Edo de Waart, Simone Young, and Richard Hickox, and perform alongside renowned composers like Gian Carlo Menotti and Richard Mills.
Known for her stunning portrayals of iconic roles such as Manon in Massenet’s Manon, Adele in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, Amelia has earned critical acclaim for her remarkable stage presence and vocal prowess. She also received a Green Room Award for her portrayal of Oscar in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera.
A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with High Distinction, Amelia has won several prestigious awards, including the Sydney Eisteddfod’s McDonald’s Operatic Aria and the Herald Sun Aria. In addition to her opera career, Amelia is a sought-after artist for corporate events, concerts, and televised performances. Her debut solo album Joie de Vivre! was released by Universal Music/Decca and was nominated for a Classical Aria in 2006.
Amelia’s deep commitment to community and education is evident through her charity work and as an Ambassador for the Sydney Eisteddfod and St Lucy’s School, Wahroonga. She is also a beloved figure in the Australian arts scene, frequently appearing in concerts and special events, including Carols in the Domain and Opera in the Domain.
