Peter Berner is one of Australia’s most respected and popular comedians and broadcasters, renowned for his razor-sharp intellect, incisive satire and exceptional ability to connect with any audience. Equally at home on stage, screen or behind the lectern, Peter is a highly sought-after corporate performer, consummate MC, after-dinner speaker and celebrity auctioneer.
Widely regarded as having one of the sharpest minds in Australian entertainment, Peter brings a rare blend of intelligence, wit and insight to every engagement. His ability to read the room and tailor his material ensures a polished, confident and thoroughly enjoyable experience, whether addressing senior executives, government leaders or large-scale conference audiences.
Peter’s corporate and institutional clients include many of Australia’s leading organisations, spanning business, government and the not-for-profit sector. These include Macquarie Bank, NAB, Toyota, Metcash, the Queensland Government Smart Awards, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and engagements for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Peter began his stand-up comedy career in 1988 at Sydney’s Comedy Store and Harold Park Hotel, before touring extensively throughout Australia and internationally. He has performed at major comedy festivals in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, as well as in London, New York, New Zealand, Singapore, Borneo, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Fiji, Latvia and Estonia.
A regular presence at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Peter has staged numerous acclaimed shows including Lonely Guys and The Big Questions (both with James O’Loghlin), Rant, Disturbed and BernerLand. Notably, his material has twice been edited out of Melbourne Comedy Festival TV Galas for being too edgy — an achievement that later became the subject of a Media Watch segment.
Peter’s television career is equally distinguished. He was the writer and host of the twice Logie-nominated BackBerner, hosted The Einstein Factor on ABC TV and You Have Been Watching on Foxtel. He has made frequent appearances on Good News Week, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, Kerri-Anne, Sunrise, The Footy Show, Paul Murray Live and The Project, and has written and hosted the AFI Awards.
On radio, Peter co-hosted the popular Triple M breakfast show The Cage, presented The Peter Berner Experiment, and held a key on-air role with Sydney’s 2UE. He has also been a regular guest on Thank God It’s Friday on ABC 702 with Richard Glover.
Beyond performance, Peter is an accomplished visual artist and published cartoonist. He has held solo exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne galleries and conceived and presented the documentary Peter Berner’s Loaded Brush, chronicling his entry into the prestigious Archibald Prize. His published work includes contributions to The Bulletin, Kookaburra, TNT (London) and B&T. He illustrated four volumes of The Lighter Side of the News and authored The Book of He, released in 2015.
As a speaker and MC, Peter Berner combines intelligence, humour and insight to create memorable, engaging and genuinely entertaining experiences — always sharp, always relevant and always expertly delivered.
