Mick Doohan is one of the all-time greats of 500cc motorcycle racing and one of Australia’s best-known sporting icons. Known as “The Thunder From Down Under,” he claimed five consecutive 500cc World Championships from 1994 to 1998, overcoming serious injuries and intense competition to dominate one of the world’s most physically and mentally demanding sports.
Mick began riding at nine and competed in off-road events before making his racing debut in 1984 on a Yamaha RZ350. His first MotoGP world championship came in 1994 at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno, and he went on to win four more consecutive titles. Despite a life-changing crash in Jerez, Spain at 200mph, which resulted in a broken leg, shoulder and wrist, Mick returned to the track and continued to perform at the highest level.
After retiring from racing, Mick served as General Manager of Racing for Honda Racing Corporation and as a consultant to Dorna Sports. He has held leadership roles on numerous boards, including the Australian Karting Association, Rally Australia and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports. His extraordinary contributions to motorsport have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Member of the Order of Australia (1996), the Australian Sports Medal (2000), induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (2009), and being named “Motocourse” greatest rider of the past 25 years (2001).
Mick’s presentations combine thrilling insights from his world-class racing career with practical lessons on leadership, commitment, planning, consistency and passion, making him a sought-after speaker for corporate, sporting and high-performance audiences.
