Born in Canberra, Michael holds the distinction of being the first cricketer from the city to represent Australia. Over his illustrious career, he played more than 250 games for his country and, at his peak, was widely regarded as the best one-day batsman in the world. In 2007, he was named a member of Australia’s Greatest Ever ODI Team.
Michael is perhaps best remembered for his ability to absorb immense pressure in the final moments of a match, often securing victory in the dying overs. One of his most iconic performances came on New Year’s Day in 1996 against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With four runs required off the last ball, Michael calmly dispatched the delivery over the umpire’s head, clinching an improbable win for Australia.
Throughout his career, Michael was part of two victorious Ashes series and three World Cups, winning two. He also played in over 10 finals in just 13 years for New South Wales, contributing to what many consider the most successful first-class team in history. He had the privilege of playing alongside numerous sporting legends and inspiring leaders, learning firsthand what it takes to achieve and sustain success at the highest level.
Following his playing career, Michael transitioned into coaching and business leadership. He is an accredited Level 3 / High Performance Cricket Coach and has served as an assistant and batting coach for the Tasmanian Cricket Squad, helping them secure their first one-day title in 27 years and their first Pura Cup victory. As head coach of the Chennai Superstars in the Indian Cricket League, he guided the team to back-to-back championships in the inaugural 20/20 competitions.
In the corporate world, Michael is the founder of Michael Bevan Mortgages, a franchise-based mortgage broking company, and Michael Bevan Business Performance, a human resources company dedicated to creating high-performing employees through coaching and strategic recruitment.
