Melissa Wu is one of Australia’s most decorated and inspiring divers, renowned for her record-breaking achievements and her dedication to mentoring the next generation of athletes. She became the youngest Australian diver to compete at an Olympic Games and the youngest ever to win an Olympic medal, claiming Silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics at just 14 years of age. By the age of 16, Melissa had medalled at every major international competition and became the first Australian platform diver to compete at four consecutive Olympic Games, placing in the top six at each.
Melissa began diving at the age of 10 and, after relocating to Brisbane to join the Australian Institute of Sport, she rapidly progressed under coach Xiangning Chen. Her early career was marked by remarkable achievements, including Gold at the Junior World Championships and Silver at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games alongside Alexandra Croak. She went on to medal at multiple World Championships, World Cups, Commonwealth Games, and World Series events, and captained the Australian Diving Team at the 2015 World Championships.
Throughout her career, Melissa has also overcome significant personal and mental health challenges, demonstrating resilience, perseverance, and leadership both in and out of the pool.
Outside the pool, Melissa is a passionate entrepreneur and mentor. She co-owns HrdKAW Strength and Weightlifting Club with her brother Josh, running gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, and CrossFit programs, and mentoring youth athletes. She also coaches the NSW Institute of Sport Diving Target Squad and co-owns the Australian Diving Academy with fellow Olympian Kevin Chavez, helping divers of all levels reach their full potential.
Melissa is also the founder of Havok Athletic, an activewear label designed specifically for athletes, combining premium quality fabrics with comfort and performance. Her work as a coach, mentor, and business owner continues to inspire athletes, young people, and audiences across Australia and internationally.
