Dr Gael Jennings is a multi-award-winning science and medical journalist, broadcaster, academic, and media advisor with a high public profile across Australia. She has worked extensively in television, radio, and print, serving as the national Science and Medical Reporter for ABC TV’s News, Quantum, and 7.30 Report, and as presenter of SBS Television’s national current affairs program Insight.
With a PhD in Immunology from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and a First Class Honours degree in Science from the University of Melbourne, Dr Jennings combines scientific expertise with media savvy. She has held senior roles in academia, industry, and the non-profit sector, including Honorary Fellow at the Centre for Advancing Journalism (University of Melbourne), CEO of Greatconnections, and Development Manager at ABC TV in Specialist Factual and Documentary.
Dr Jennings is an accomplished speaker and facilitator, covering topics ranging from science, health, technology, bioethics, and global movements to leadership, governance, media, and education. Her clients include CSIRO, Bayer CropScience, Biotechnology Australia, Telstra, Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, Australia Post, and numerous government and corporate organisations.
An award-winning author, her books include Sick As… Bloody Moments in the History of Medicine (NSW Premier’s Children’s History Award, 2000) and Beyond Belief: How Five Australian Scientists Changed the World. She has served on numerous boards and advisory committees spanning science, health, education, and the arts, and regularly appears on ABC TV’s News Breakfast and ABC Radio’s Conversation Hour.
