David Gower is widely regarded as one of England’s most stylish and elegant batsmen of the modern era. He made his Test debut in 1978 against Pakistan at Edgbaston, marking his arrival with a memorable four off his first delivery. Over the course of a 14-year international career, David played 117 Test matches, scoring 8,231 runs at an average of 44.25, including 18 centuries, and 114 One Day Internationals. He remains one of England’s highest run-scorers in Test cricket, second only to Graham Gooch.
