Akmal Saleh

Comedian and Talk Show Host
Movies, sketch comedy, stand-up, TV, radio, improvisation, and writing — Akmal is one of Australia’s most respected and accomplished comedians. Renowned for his sharp wit and fearless humour, he has a unique ability to tackle hot topics in a hilarious yet non-offensive way.
Born in Egypt, Akmal migrated to Australia with his family nearly 30 years ago — an experience he sums up in his trademark style: “My parents didn’t tell us where we were going. We thought it was two hours away. Twenty hours later, we got off a plane. We were on another planet.” His colourful upbringing and cultural perspective have shaped a comedic voice unlike any other.
As Australia’s only Arab comedian, Akmal’s heritage brings a fresh and hilarious take on religion, honesty, and modern life. His effortless stage presence and quick-fire delivery have earned him devoted audiences across the country and beyond.
Akmal’s popularity soared through his regular appearances on hit TV shows including Rove, The Glasshouse and Thank God You’re Here. He has performed countless sell-out national tours, including Hoot and Gullible, and written and starred in the cult comedy All Aussies Are Boofta.
A festival favourite, Akmal has appeared at major events worldwide, from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Adelaide Fringe to Just For Laughs in Montreal and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Akmal also wrote and starred in the feature film You Can’t Stop the Murders and the cult TV hit The 40 Foot Show. His stint as host of Nova’s The Wrong Way Home delivered the station’s highest-ever drive ratings before he returned to his first love — stand-up — with the platinum-selling Live and Uncensored tour and DVD.
A multiple award nominee, Akmal has been recognised with nods for two Australian Comedy Awards, two Helpmann Awards for live performance, and an ARIA for his hit DVD Live and Uncensored.
