He first rose to national prominence in the early 2000s as one half of the iconic comedy duo Merrick and Rosso, taking triple j Drive to record-breaking ratings and becoming the inaugural voices of the NOVA network. The pair went on to cultivate a cult television following with hit shows across Nine, Ten and The Comedy Channel.
As a solo performer, Merrick forged a new path — appearing as an actor in acclaimed productions such as The Hollowmen and Underbelly, while returning to the stage with his first solo stand-up tour, Man of the House, in 2017.
In 2018, Merrick founded Grapes of Mirth, a boutique touring comedy festival that brings together some of Australia’s best comedians for sell-out performances staged at wineries around the country. The festival has since become a celebrated fusion of comedy, wine and destination experiences, earning widespread praise and a devoted following.
In 2020, Merrick challenged himself both physically and mentally on Channel 7’s SAS: Australia, undertaking elements of the real SAS selection process during the show’s record-breaking season. These experiences now form part of his unique live storytelling, including his successful ongoing show An Idiot’s Guide to Wine, which blends humour, insight and genuine wine expertise.
Merrick remains a familiar face on Australian television, with appearances on Thank God You’re Here, The Project, Hughesy, We Have a Problem, and as a regular panellist on Network Ten’s Studio 10.

Merrick Watts is a certified Sommelier after completing an internationally recognised WSET level 3 with Merit (one off diploma) in 2019. Merrick is available to host a comedic corporate friendly wine tasting that includes standard MC duties.
Fee covers comedic wine tasting performance, wine selection, creation of bespoke performance around those wines and 2 x briefing calls prior to the event. The Hirer is required to supply the wine, glassware and service staff via the venue.
