Merrick originally rose to fame in the early 2000s as one half of comedy duo Merrick and Rosso, before carving out a successful solo career as an actor on The Hollowmen and Underbelly, and as a stand-up comedian who continues to pack out rooms nationwide.
But it’s his entrepreneurial ventures where Merrick has truly found his sweet spot. In 2018, he founded Grapes of Mirth, a touring comedy festival that brings top Australian comedians to wineries around the country. What started as a quaint concept has grown into one of the most successful comedy touring brands in Australia, combining Merrick’s two passions – great comedy and exceptional wine. As a certified wine expert, Merrick curates experiences where audiences can enjoy world-class stand-up while discovering incredible Australian wines. He’s a people person at heart, and watching his comedian mates perform to crowds creating memories over wine is where he’s happiest.
Merrick took his entrepreneurial spirit even further with Posca Hydrate, a supplementary sports drink based on ancient Roman recipe revered by gladiators. The venture was inspired by his time on Channel 7’s record-breaking SAS: Australia, where he became the oldest person to ever complete the physically and psychologically demanding course – one of only three participants to pass selection, proving he’s as tough as he is funny.

Merrick Watts is a certified Sommelier after completing an internationally recognised WSET level 3 with Merit (one off diploma) in 2019. Merrick is available to host a comedic corporate friendly wine tasting that includes standard MC duties.
Fee covers comedic wine tasting performance, wine selection, creation of bespoke performance around those wines and 2 x briefing calls prior to the event. The Hirer is required to supply the wine, glassware and service staff via the venue.
