Wally Masur is a highly respected Australian tennis coach, television commentator, and former professional player, renowned for his calm authority, expertise, and approachable personality. A permanent fixture on Fox Sports’ tennis coverage, Wally has provided commentary on all the Grand Slam events, bringing insight, clarity, and enthusiasm to audiences across the nation.

Born in the United Kingdom, Wally began playing tennis at the age of eight. He reached the final of the Australian Open boys’ singles in 1980 and won the boys’ doubles title the same year. Turning professional in 1982, Wally went on to reach career-high singles ranking of World No. 15 in October 1993. He reached the semi-finals of the 1987 Australian Open and the 1993 US Open, winning three ATP singles titles (Hong Kong 1983, Adelaide 1986, Newport 1988) and 16 doubles titles.

After retiring from the professional tour in 1995, Wally transitioned seamlessly into coaching and mentoring. He guided Germany’s Michael Stich and later took over as Australia’s Davis Cup coach, working with champions including Lleyton Hewitt and Nick Kyrgios. In 2015, he was appointed captain of the Australian Davis Cup team, succeeding Pat Rafter.
