Rachael Beck is one of Australia’s most accomplished and versatile performers, celebrated for her distinguished career across musical theatre, film, television and concert performance, as well as her growing impact as an arts educator and advocate for youth wellbeing.
She is widely recognised for her award-winning performance as Belle opposite Hugh Jackman in Beauty and the Beast, which won the 1996 ARIA Award for Best Australian Soundtrack/Cast/Show Release. Her stage work has been further acclaimed with a Green Award nomination for her portrayal of Fantine in Les Misérables and standout performances including Rumpleteaser in Cats, both produced by Cameron Mackintosh.
Rachael’s extensive theatre credits span classical and contemporary works. They include Peg Hartigan in Summer Rain (directed by Robyn Nevin), Secret Bridesmaid’s Business, Fredrika in A Little Night Music, Lady Mortimer in Henry IV for the Sydney Theatre Company, and Me and My Girl, which toured Australia and New Zealand for the Adelaide Festival. Her work with The Production Company includes The Pajama Game, Call Me Madam and Big Hair in America, which premiered at the HotHouse Theatre.
Her musical theatre highlights also include Sally Bowles in Cabaret (directed by Sam Mendes), Kathy Selden in Singin’ in the Rain (earning a MO Award nomination), Maria in The Sound of Music, Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and appearances in Eureka, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Strictly Gershwin, the latter receiving a Helpmann Award nomination.
On screen, Rachael is known for her role as Lisa Parker in Home and Away and has appeared in numerous Australian television series including City Homicide, Stingers, The Flying Doctors, GP, Hey Dad, The Feds and This Man This Woman. Her film credits include Ocean Boulevard and the recent feature A Long Night, in which she plays the lead role of Vivian.
A highly skilled concert and recording artist, Rachael has performed with Australia’s leading orchestras and composers, including appearances in Broadway to Hollywood with Todd McKenney and Tommy Tycho, War of the Worlds, Morning Melodies, Christmas in Concert, Spirit of Christmas, and Broadway Hits with the Queensland Pops Orchestra. She has toured nationally with Jason Robert Brown, performed at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and regularly appears in concert with Michael Cormick, including the national tour of You and Me.
Beyond performance, Rachael is deeply committed to arts education and youth wellbeing. In 2017, she became National Head Judge for Wakakirri, Australia’s national story-sharing arts festival for primary schools. She conducts workshops and artist residencies in schools across Australia and is the creator of The Lionhearted Theatre and Arts Program, which supports young people in exploring mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and disconnection through creative storytelling.
