Professor Paul Davies is an internationally renowned theoretical physicist whose work spans astrophysics, cosmology, and some of the deepest questions about existence. By profession a theoretical physicist, Paul has spent much of his career exploring the origin and earliest moments of the universe, the quantum properties of black holes, and the fundamental nature of time.
His research interests extend beyond traditional physics into the nature and origin of life, including the possibility of life—and intelligent life—beyond Earth. These twin interests naturally lead into the emerging frontier where physics, biology, and complex systems intersect. Paul is widely recognised for his ability to connect these disciplines to address profound questions about order, information, and meaning in the universe.
In recent years, Paul has also become involved in research into the origins of cancer and its deep evolutionary roots, work that has significant implications for understanding disease and developing future therapies. This research reflects his broader commitment to applying fundamental science to real-world challenges.
At the heart of Paul’s work is a passion for exploring the “big questions”: what, if anything, preceded the Big Bang; why the universe appears finely tuned for life; and whether humanity is alone in the cosmos. These questions place his work at the intersection of science, philosophy, and theology, and have made him a compelling public intellectual as well as a leading scientist.
As a speaker, Paul Davies is celebrated for his clarity, intellectual depth, and ability to make complex ideas accessible. He challenges audiences to think differently about time, life, and humanity’s place in the universe, offering insights that inspire curiosity, humility, and wonder.
