Michael Usher is one of Australia’s most experienced journalists, with a career spanning more than three decades reporting on sport, politics, and major international events. Best known for his work on Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes, Michael has covered stories from scorching deserts to freezing glaciers, and from the United States to Europe and the Middle East.

His career began in Western Australia as a cadet at Golden West Television in 1990, followed by reporting roles in Bunbury and Kalgoorlie, before joining STW9 Perth. In 1993, he moved to Sydney with TCN 9, covering the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and leading coverage of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, as well as subsequent Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Michael’s international experience includes assignments in the Nine Network’s US and London Bureaus, covering major events such as the September 11 attacks, the Iraq War, subway bombings in London and Madrid, the death of Pope John Paul II, and the Colombia Space Shuttle tragedy.

Upon returning to Australia, Michael presented Nightline, the Sunday Program, and contributed extensively to 60 Minutes, including hosting the first leaders’ debate between Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott. After 25 years with Nine, he joined the 7 Network as Presenter and Weekend Newsreader, balancing his professional commitments with family life. Known for his skill in uncovering and sharing compelling stories, Michael is a captivating MC and facilitator who engages audiences with insight, experience, and a human perspective.
