Lisa Curry is one of Australia’s most admired sporting and leadership icons, whose career spans elite sport, business, media, health advocacy and public service. A triple Olympian, successful businesswoman and internationally recognised coach, Lisa is renowned for her resilience, credibility and lifelong commitment to wellbeing and excellence.
Lisa’s elite swimming career spanned an extraordinary 23 years, during which she ranked among the top 25 swimmers in the world. She represented Australia at three Olympic Games, two World Championships and three Commonwealth Games, holding Australian and Commonwealth records in every stroke except backstroke from 50 to 400 metres. In 1992, Lisa became the first swimmer to represent Australia at both the Commonwealth and Olympic Games as a mother—at age 30 and with two young children—recording her fastest Olympic performance at the Barcelona Games, a personal career highlight.
Following her return to elite competition, Lisa again made sporting history as both a competitor and coach. She led the Australian outrigger canoe team, the Riggeroos, to four World Championship victories in the gruelling 72km Hawaiian race—the first Australian team ever to do so—and became the first Australian to win the iconic Molokai to Oahu 66km solo race.
Beyond sport, Lisa is a passionate advocate for health and wellbeing. She has dedicated much of her career to addressing childhood and adult obesity and reducing the incidence of heart disease, including completing a 50,000km road journey across regional Australia to deliver boot camps, workshops and community education programs for people of all ages.
A highly respected media personality, Lisa spent more than 25 years as a television presenter and brand ambassador, most notably through her 23-year association with Uncle Tobys—one of the longest and most enduring partnerships between an Australian athlete and a corporate brand. She is also the author of six books on health, fitness and lifestyle, and has developed multiple online fitness and weight-loss programs, alongside a health education platform focused on hormonal balance.
Lisa’s contribution to Australian society has been widely recognised. She has been awarded an MBE and OAM for services to sport and community, and an AO for her role as Chair of the National Australia Day Council, where she served from 2000 to 2008 after appointment by Prime Minister John Howard—the first woman to hold the position.
One of Australia’s most sought-after keynote speakers, Lisa Curry inspires audiences of all ages and backgrounds to pursue optimum wellbeing, resilience, passion and purpose, drawing on a life defined by discipline, adaptability and achievement at the highest level.
