Lee Lin Chin has been described as “one of the greatest in the history of Australian broadcasting” and a “beacon of diversity.” She is best known as the long-standing newsreader on SBS, a role she held for 30 years until her resignation in 2018, and has been a defining face of the network.
Her career spans a remarkable range of roles in media, including comedy, satire, promotional features, and online content. She has also starred in minor roles in Australian films such as Resistance and the mini-series Bangkok Hilton. Lee Lin has presented comedy segments for SBS including Pranked with Lee Lin Chin, Lee Lin Chin Versus Maggie Beer, and Celebrity Chin Wag, and served as Australia’s spokesperson for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 and 2016.
In addition to broadcasting, Lee Lin Chin is an accomplished MC, panel moderator, interviewer, and host for awards, corporate and educational events, voiceovers, and narration projects.
Born in Singapore, Lee Lin Chin began her broadcasting career in 1968 and moved to Australia in 1988. In 1992 she became weekend news presenter on World News Australia at SBS, and over three decades built a career spanning news reading, reporting, research, music programming, in-flight program production, and voice-over work.
Of Chinese heritage, Lee Lin Chin has a worldly outlook with interests in international affairs, history, literature, and the arts, and she is also a keen writer. Her distinctive style, sharp humour, and professional versatility have made her a respected and influential figure in Australian media.
