Dr Lawrence Blair is an explorer, filmmaker, author, and public speaker specializing in the peoples, cultures, and creatures of Indonesia. Based in Bali, he has led and assisted marine expeditions across the archipelago since 1978, beginning with the Lindblad Explorer’s groundbreaking journey through the Spice Islands. His expedition companions have included prominent figures such as Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall, Sir Peter Scott, Ron and Valerie Taylor, Sir Michael Cowdray, Baron Von Schenk, Larry Summers, and Richard Dawkins, alongside numerous leading scientists.

Educated in Britain, France, and Mexico, Dr Blair earned his doctorate from Lancaster University, England, with a thesis in Psycho-Anthropology, later published as the acclaimed book Rhythms of Vision – The Changing Patterns of Belief.

He is the writer, presenter, and co-producer (with his late brother Lorne) of the Emmy-winning PBS and BBC TV adventure series Ring of Fire, broadcast in over sixty countries and introduced by Richard Gere. Dr Blair also authored the companion book Ring of Fire, chronicling a decade of Indonesian exploration, which spent ten weeks in the UK Top Ten Bestsellers list.

In 2005–2006, he wrote, presented, and co-produced the five-part series Myths, Magic and Monsters for SKY TV UK. A sought-after lecturer and media commentator, Dr Blair has appeared on international radio and television, sharing insights on psycho-anthropology, tribal mysticism, and the cultural and natural wonders of Indonesia.
