Ian “Kamo” Jones MNZM is one of New Zealand rugby’s most respected figures, a former All Black and a dynamic speaker who brings energy, insight, and humour to every event. Standing 6’6”, Ian overcame his perceived lack of bulk to become one of the nation’s greatest locks, earning 79 test caps and playing 105 games for the All Blacks between 1989 and 1999. He formed one of rugby’s most enduring locking partnerships with Robin Brooke and also captained the Chiefs in Super 12 competition.
Born and raised in Kamo, Whangarei, Ian debuted for the All Blacks in 1990 against Scotland, scoring a try on his first cap. Following his international career, he played in England with Gloucester and Wasps, then returned to New Zealand as a presenter and commentator for Sky TV. He is now an AIA Vitality Ambassador, advocating for men’s mental health, fitness, and community engagement.
Ian combines his rugby experience with his passion for leadership, coaching, and teamwork, sharing lessons that translate from sport to business. Off the field, he actively participates in endurance events and philanthropic projects, including founding a community food kitchen, Eddies Meals. In 2010, he was appointed Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to rugby.
Family, community, and fitness remain at the heart of Ian’s life, and he brings these values, along with warmth and humour, to his speaking engagements.
