Grant “Scooter” Patterson is a North Queensland Paralympic legend, four-time medalist, and inspirational speaker. Born with Diastrophic Dysplasia, a rare joint fusion condition associated with dwarfism, Scooter has turned challenges into triumphs, earning four Paralympic medals across the 2021 Tokyo Games (1 Silver, 1 Bronze) and 2024 Paris Games (2 Bronze).

Scooter’s journey is one of dedication, resilience, and relentless hard work. Training twice daily for over 17 years under coach Herbie Howard, he has combined his passion for swimming with a love of fishing, quad biking, and building go-karts—always embracing life with humour and a “no excuses” attitude.

Nicknamed “Scooter” after the three-wheeled trike he uses for independence, Grant’s larger-than-life personality and North Queensland larrikin charm have captured the hearts of Australians and global sports fans. He has been awarded the Key to the City of Cairns and is celebrated as one of Australia’s top Paralympians.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Scooter is a powerful advocate for people living with disabilities.
