Geraldine Doogue is one of Australia’s most respected journalists and broadcasters, renowned for her sharp intellect, warmth, and deep understanding of national and global affairs. She currently presents ABC Radio National’s Saturday Extra and ABC Television’s Compass, and previously hosted the acclaimed long-running program Life Matters.
A highly sought-after facilitator and MC, Geraldine is known for her professionalism, incisive questioning, and ability to draw meaningful insights from panellists. She is frequently engaged for corporate videos, conferences, policy forums, and progressive, ideas-driven events.
Geraldine began her career with a journalism cadetship at The West Australian, quickly building a reputation across print, radio, and television. Early roles included two years in London with the Murdoch group’s Australian papers before an unexpected on-camera interview led to her being offered a presenting position on ABC Television’s Nationwide. She later worked with 2UE and co-presented Channel 10’s main news bulletin before returning to the ABC in 1990, where she played a key role in the network’s Gulf War coverage.
Her work has been recognised with two Penguin Awards, a United Nations Media Peace Prize, a Churchill Fellowship, and her appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to the community and media.
