Dr. Craig Challen is an internationally recognised technical diver and the 2019 Australian of the Year, honoured for his pivotal role in rescuing 12 young soccer players and their coach from a flooded Thai cave in 2018. With his expertise in cave diving and unwavering bravery, Craig played a leading role in the perilous mission, risking his life to guide the children through dark, narrow, flooded tunnels, working tirelessly for over 10 hours a day. His courageous efforts earned him the Star of Courage and global recognition.

In addition to his heroic rescue work, Craig is one of Australia’s leading technical divers and a passionate adventurer. He has explored some of the world’s deepest caves, including the Cocklebiddy Cave in the Nullarbor Plain and the Pearse Resurgence in New Zealand. Craig is also an avid shipwreck diver and a skilled aviator, with a background as a veterinary surgeon and former CEO of Australian Animal Hospitals.
