Corey Brown is one of Australia’s most accomplished jockeys, a two-time Melbourne Cup winner, and a highly sought-after keynote speaker. Known for his remarkable composure under pressure, Corey consistently delivers at the highest level, whether in elite Group One races at Flemington and Royal Randwick or midweek events at Warwick Farm.
Born into a racing family in northern NSW, Corey’s grandfather Trevor and father Jack were both successful jockeys. Corey’s passion for racing was clear from an early age: “Dad said there were two things he could teach me to do: change tyres or become a jockey. Needless to say, tyres didn’t appeal.” He rode his first winner, Another Square, at Kempsey in 1991, and soon received encouragement from former champion jockey Malcolm Johnston to move to Sydney to advance his career.
Corey’s rise through the ranks was swift. He spent three successful years racing in Hong Kong from 1998 before returning to Sydney, where he won the 2001/02 Sydney jockeys premiership with 106 wins. Among his early Group One successes were victories on Mr Prudent in the Sydney Cup, Fine Society in the Canterbury Guineas, and Kusi in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
2003 marked a turning point in Corey’s career, as he stunned the racing world on Epsom Day by riding four winners at the Randwick feature meeting, including a Group One treble on Clangalang, Niello, and Unearthly. The following season, he rode seven Group One winners, cementing his reputation as one of the nation’s elite riders.
In 2007–08, Corey achieved every jockey’s dream by finishing the season as Australia’s leading Group One rider, capturing seven majors—including five consecutive wins on Apache Cat in the Lightning Stakes, Australia Stakes, T.J. Smith Stakes, Doomben 10,000, and BTC Cup.
Corey’s career pinnacle came during the 2009 Melbourne Cup carnival. Over the course of just seven days, he claimed victories in the Victoria Derby on Monaco Consul, the Melbourne Cup on Shocking, and the Emirates Stakes on All American, delivering a remarkable hat-trick on the sport’s biggest stage. He added to his Melbourne Cup legacy in 2017 aboard Rekindling.
Internationally, Corey held a Singapore riding license in 2013, achieving 14 wins from 87 rides and ranking third for strike rate among Singapore jockeys. Since returning to Sydney in 2016, he has continued to secure Group One wins and remains a formidable competitor on the track.
Beyond his racing achievements, Corey is a natural communicator and inspirational speaker, sharing personal stories of determination, perseverance, and success. Off the track, he is a devoted husband and father to three daughters. Corey Brown’s life and career exemplify talent, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
