Best known as the long-time DIY guru on Better Homes and Gardens, Rob combines hands-on expertise with an engaging on-stage presence, making him a popular MC and host for corporate and public events.

Rob’s career began early, working in his father’s carpentry business during school holidays from the age of nine. Driven by a genuine passion for construction and design, he continued working in the family business after leaving school, completing his carpentry apprenticeship in 1998. Within a year, Rob had established his own company, RJP Constructions, building a reputation for quality workmanship and reliability.

In 2000, while working as a carpenter, Rob was approached to present Live This!, a lifestyle program on Channel 10. This opportunity marked the beginning of a successful television career, leading to his much-loved role as the resident DIY expert on Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens, where he became a household name.

Rob further captured the nation’s attention in 2010 when he won the tenth season of Dancing With The Stars alongside professional partner Alana Patience. His television appearances also include House Calls to the Rescue and Room for Improvement, showcasing his versatility and appeal beyond DIY.

Since departing Better Homes and Gardens in 2015, Rob has continued to expand his work across media and community projects. He launched his own DIY YouTube venture, focused on making practical home improvement skills more accessible to everyday Australians. He has also collaborated with The Sebastian Foundation, redesigning the gardens at the Detour House women’s shelter — a project widely praised for its social impact and thoughtful design.

Beyond his professional achievements, Rob is a passionate advocate for health awareness. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of seven, he actively supports Diabetes Australia and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and is a regular contributor to Diabetic Living magazine.

As a speaker and host, Rob Palmer brings authenticity, approachability and real-world experience, offering audiences insights into craftsmanship, resilience, community impact and living well through challenge.
