Dr Rebecca Huntley is one of Australia’s foremost researchers on social trends. She holds degrees in law and film studies and a PhD in Gender Studies, and has led major research programs at Essential Media and Vox Populi. She was previously a director at Ipsos Australia and for many years ran her own research and consultancy firm, working closely with climate and environment NGOs, government, and business on climate change strategy and communication. She is currently Director of Research at the agency 89 Degrees East.
Rebecca is the author of numerous books, including How to Talk About Climate Change in a Way That Makes a Difference (Murdoch Books, 2020). Her latest book is Sassafras, a memoir about love, loss, and MDMA-assisted therapy.
She is a regular writer for The Monthly, Australian Traveller, The Guardian, and The Sydney Morning Herald. A former broadcaster with ABC Radio National, she presented The History Listen and regularly hosted Drive on Fridays.
Rebecca is a Fellow of the Women Leadership Institute of Australia and of The Research Society. She is a member of the Advisory Group for the Climate Solutions Centre at the Australian Museum and a board member of the Dusseldorp Forum. She was formerly Chair of the Advisory Board of Australian Parents for Climate Action and has held board and advisory roles with the Bell Shakespeare Company, the Whitlam Institute, the Sydney Environment Institute, and the Dusseldorp Forum. She has also served as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales.
