Professor Dr Megan Davis BA, LLB, Hon. LLD (Qld), GDLP, LLM, PhD (ANU), FAAL, FASSA is Pro Vice-Chancellor Society at UNSW Sydney. She is also the Balnaves Chair of Constitutional Law, a UNSW Scientia Professor, Professor of Law and Director of the Indigenous Law Centre at UNSW Law.

A Cobble Cobble woman of the Barunggam Nation, Professor Davis is one of Australia’s foremost constitutional and public law experts, widely respected for her scholarship, advocacy and leadership in advancing the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Her work spans law, policy, governance and human rights at both national and international levels.

Professor Davis has played a significant role on the global stage through her work with the United Nations. She was elected by the UN Human Rights Council to the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in 2017 and re-elected in 2019, serving until 2022. She is currently Chair of the Expert Mechanism. Previously, she served as an expert member and Chair of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at UN Headquarters in New York from 2011 to 2016.

In Australia, Professor Davis is an Acting Commissioner of the NSW Land and Environment Court, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences, and a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission.

Through her academic leadership, public service and international advocacy, Professor Davis continues to shape national conversations on constitutional reform, Indigenous rights and social justice.
