Masters of Ceremonies (MC's) Media Media TV

Television Reporter, MC, Speaker

Leonie Mellor is a highly regarded journalist with 20 years experience in print, television and radio.

She has worked in Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide, covering local news, major international events as well as politics at every level.

Her experiences have taken her across the country and overseas, for some of the most dramatic and newsworthy events of the past two decades.

Leonie began her career as a newspaper journalist for the Messenger Group in Adelaide before moving to The Advertiser, then Channel Ten as State Political Reporter.

Within two years, she was appointed Senior Political Correspondent for the Ten Network in Canberra where she reported on some of the most influential times of the Howard years, post September 11.

But it hasn’t all been politics.

She also covered the Boxing Day tsunami from the devastated Indonesian province of Aceh, the Snowtown serial killings, numerous court appearances of the Australians known as the Bali 9 and Peter Falconio’s disappearance at Barrow Creek in the NT.

In 2009, she and her family moved to Brisbane – just in time for the Queensland floods and Cyclone Yasi. She covered the Japanese tsunami and nuclear fallout at Fukushima, sat behind Lindy Chamberlain in court as the Northern Territory Coroner apologised to her over the loss of her daughter Azaria and recorded the first interview and only pictures of Campbell Newman writing his victory speech as he stormed to an historic victory in the 2012 State election.

She is now freelancing for ABC News – television and radio.

Leonie has a good sense of humour, is warm, intelligent and entertaining. She likes telling a good story and has a special interest in politics, rural issues and sport.

She has hosted award ceremonies for government and the corporate sector, fundraisers for charities and art show openings.

Leonie has a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) from the University of South Australia. She grew up on a wheat and sheep property in regional South Australia.
