Ian Chappell AC is widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest cricket captains and a true legend of the game. Born in South Australia, he captained Australia in 30 Tests between 1971 and 1975, leading the team to an unbeaten series record. Over his 75-Test career, Ian scored 5,345 runs at an average of 42.42, including 14 centuries, while also contributing as a slip fielder and occasional leg spinner. His first-class career spanned 262 matches, amassing 19,680 runs and 176 wickets.
A member of one of Australia’s most famous cricketing families, Ian created historic moments alongside his brothers Greg and Trevor, including the legendary 1974 Test in Wellington where both he and Greg scored centuries in each innings. He has been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, the FICA Cricket Hall of Fame, the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, and the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
Since retiring, Ian has become a respected cricket commentator, writer, and author of over 20 books, including Chapelli: Life, Larrikins and Cricket.
