Andrew Main is the wealth editor of The Australian, a role he has held since 2012, after serving as the business editor since 2007. With more than four decades of experience in financial journalism, Andrew is a highly respected public speaker, MC, and corporate communicator, known for making complex business topics accessible and engaging. His expertise spans corporate governance, equity markets, insurance, reinsurance, and the mining, resources, and energy sectors.
Throughout his career, Andrew has moderated discussions with business leaders at conferences across the globe and frequently MCs events on investment, retirement, and financial literacy. He has been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of saving for retirement and guiding audiences through the common pitfalls of personal finance.
Andrew’s career began in 1979 as a financial reporter, followed by a successful stint as an institutional stockbroker with JP Morgan in Sydney, Paris, and London. His journalistic career includes notable roles at The West Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Australian Financial Review, where he earned a Gold Walkley Award for his coverage of the Offset Alpine-Swiss Bank account scandal. He has authored two well-received books, Other People’s Money on the collapse of HIH and Rivkin Unauthorised, a biography of the late investor Rene Rivkin, both of which were shortlisted for the Blake Dawson Waldron Prize for Business Literature.
In addition to his print and broadcast work, Andrew maintains a regular radio spot on ABC 702 in Sydney, where he helps demystify the world of business for listeners. His deep knowledge of the superannuation industry, which now manages over $1.8 trillion in Australia, makes him a key voice in financial discussions, especially around retirement and wealth accumulation.
