Sonia Kruger is one of Australia’s most loved and versatile television personalities, celebrated for her energy, charisma and enduring connection with audiences. Her 2023 Gold Logie award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television cemented her status as a household name, and she was again nominated in 2024 for both the Gold and Silver Logies.
A lover of dance and wellness, Sonia discovered her passion at age four, eventually becoming one of Australia’s foremost dancers. She gained national recognition as Tina Sparkle in the iconic film Strictly Ballroom, where she also assisted cast members as a dance instructor. Sonia later taught dance for over four years at NIDA, sharing her expertise with aspiring performers.
Sonia’s television career began with roles on Channel Nine’s Wonder World and ABC’s Three Men and a Baby Grand. After completing an Arts degree at Sydney’s University of Technology in 1997, she joined Seven’s long-running morning and news program 11AM as an entertainment reporter, before moving to Today Tonight. Between 2004 and 2011, she co-hosted 11 seasons of Seven Network’s prime-time hit Dancing with the Stars and appeared as a reporter on Sunday Night.
In 2012, Sonia joined the Nine Network to host Big Brother for three seasons and the prime-time talent show The Voice Australia. She also featured on Today Extra, appearing weekday mornings.
In 2019, Sonia launched her own dance-based fitness and wellness program, Strictly You, designed to provide fun, accessible exercise without unrealistic expectations. Her philosophy is simple: being fabulous looks different for everyone, and one size doesn’t fit all.
Sonia returned to the Seven Network in 2020, praised by CEO James Warburton as “one of the best television talents in Australia” and “the one that got away.” She continues to work on new projects while living in Sydney with her partner Craig and daughter Maggie.
