Ricardo Gonçalves is an experienced television journalist, presenter, and highly sought-after master of ceremonies, recognised for his authority, clarity, and professionalism across news, business, and live events.

He currently anchors SBS World News, serves as SBS Finance Editor, hosts Small Business Secrets, and presents the SBS On the Money Podcast and Vodcast. Ricardo is widely respected for his ability to explain complex economic and financial issues in an accessible and engaging way for national and international audiences.

Beyond SBS, Ricardo has recently appeared as a panellist on ABC News Breakfast, presented Insight on SBS, and was a guest quizmaster on Have You Been Paying Attention? He also reached a global audience of more than 250 million viewers as Australia’s spokesperson for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.

Ricardo has reported on major news events around the world, anchoring live coverage of the 2019 Christchurch terror attack, and filing stories from the Middle East, Los Angeles, and New York’s Ground Zero. Throughout his career, he has interviewed many of Australia’s leading CEOs, financial analysts, and economists, with standout interviews including Sir Richard Branson, Portuguese President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, and former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

He began his television career in 1998 as a regional news reporter (as Richard Goncalves) for WIN News Wollongong, also appearing on the consumer affairs program Today Tonight. In 2001, he moved into metropolitan television as a video business journalist and producer for finance journalist David Koch, creating content for Sky News, Seven News, Sunrise, and 2GB.

In 2004, Ricardo relocated to Melbourne to work as a video business journalist for Sky News and a weekend reporter for National Nine News. During this time, he also volunteered as a breakfast newsreader on community radio station JOY FM. He returned to Sydney in 2007 to produce and anchor live rolling and breaking news on Sky News Business, where his team won an ASTRA Award for Best News Coverage for its reporting of the Global Financial Crisis.

Ricardo joined SBS in 2010, where he has since become one of the network’s most trusted and recognisable presenters.

In addition to broadcasting, Ricardo is an accomplished MC, corporate speaker, and conference facilitator, regularly fronting high-profile events such as the Telstra Business Awards, Australia Day Address, Pitch@Palace, Commonwealth Bank Property Pulse, and the City of Sydney Future Asia Business Summit.

He has served as a judge for both the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism and the Telstra Business Awards, and is an Australia Day Ambassador. Ricardo is also actively involved with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and has volunteered his time supporting migrant and LGBTI communities.

Ricardo holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Marketing) from the University of Wollongong and is of Portuguese heritage.
