Paul Stevens is one of the most experienced and respected figures in professional golf, having toured the world for more than 35 years working alongside many of the game’s greatest legends. Widely regarded as the longest-serving tour caddie in history, Paul has carried the bag for icons including Sir Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Tom Watson, Gary Player and many others at the highest level of the sport.

Paul’s remarkable journey began at just 12 years of age at Rochdale Golf Club in the United Kingdom, where he caddied on weekends and during school holidays. Although his early passion for music briefly took precedence—leading to unforgettable experiences supporting The Beatles on stage at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club—Paul soon returned to golf, caddying for his cousin at a professional tournament. From that moment, his career accelerated rapidly.

The following year, Paul found himself standing on the 18th green at Royal Lytham & St Annes during the final round of The Open Championship, alongside the tournament’s leading professionals Gary Player and Peter Oosterhuis. It marked the beginning of an extraordinary career at the very pinnacle of world golf.

Over the decades, Paul has been part of 15 tournament victories and 10 top-15 finishes at The Open Championship, including two runner-up finishes. He has caddied in golf’s most prestigious team events, including the Ryder Cup, Dunhill Cup, World Cup and Kirin Cup, competing against legends such as Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

Paul’s list of players reads like a roll call of golfing greats. He has worked with Sam Snead; Christy O’Connor Snr.; Ben Crenshaw (U.S. Masters Champion 1984 and 1995); Hubert Green (U.S. Open Champion 1977); Bill Rogers (Open Champion 1981); Curtis Strange (U.S. Open Champion 1988 and 1989); and Sandy Lyle (Open Champion 1985 and U.S. Masters Champion 1988).

In 1984, Paul caddied for Tom Watson during his victory at the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne, widely regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the world. He was the regular caddie for Peter Oosterhuis in 1974 during his season as leading money winner and Open Championship runner-up, for Greg Norman in 1979–80, and for Nick Faldo in 1986. Paul also enjoyed great success with Mark McNulty, winning three German Opens and the 1987 British Masters, and later won the British Masters again in 1992 with Christy O’Connor Junior.

A natural entertainer with an unrivalled catalogue of behind-the-ropes stories, Paul Stevens is a highly sought-after after-dinner speaker, particularly for golf days, corporate events and sporting audiences. His presentations offer insightful, humorous and often surprising glimpses into the personalities, pressures and unforgettable moments that define elite professional golf.

He engaged brilliantly with a mixed audience and his tales and insights into the world golf went down a storm. I would have no qualms recommending Paul. He contributed perfectly to creating a highly successful event. Chamber of Commerce, East Lancashire
