Nick Maxwell is a powerful example of hard work, persistence and the true meaning of team. After years of setbacks and time on the rookie list, he became one of the AFL’s great success stories—captaining the Collingwood Football Club to its drought-breaking 2010 AFL Premiership.
Widely recognised for his leadership capability, Nick transitioned seamlessly from elite sport into leadership development and executive roles. He has worked as a leadership coach with high-performance organisations including the Melbourne Storm and the GWS Giants, and as an advisor to business leaders across a wide range of industries. His corporate clients have included Telstra, PwC, BHP, Holden, Barry Plant Real Estate and the Melbourne Stars.
Nick holds an MBA with a focus on Sports Administration, complementing his practical leadership experience with strong commercial and organisational insight. In November 2017, he returned to Collingwood Football Club as General Manager of Football Operations, overseeing leadership and culture across the AFL, AFLW, Netball and administration teams.
After five years in the role, Nick stepped into the position of CEO of Éclat, a members-only restaurant, café, dining room and event space, blending hospitality, community and business leadership.
As a speaker, Nick delivers authentic and highly relatable insights on leadership, resilience, culture and performance. Drawing on his journey from rookie to premiership captain and senior executive, he inspires organisations to build strong teams, lead with clarity and perform under pressure.
