Articulate, intelligent and widely respected, Nick Farr-Jones is one of Australia’s most admired sporting leaders and a highly sought-after keynote speaker. Renowned for his calm authority and ability to motivate under pressure, Nick played an integral role in one of the most successful eras of Australian rugby.
Nick captained the Wallabies to victory in the 1991 Rugby World Cup, the 1992 Bledisloe Cup, and a historic series win against the Springboks in 1992. He remains Australia’s most-capped scrum half and most-capped Wallabies captain, having led the national side in 36 consecutive Test matches between 1988 and 1992. His leadership was further recognised internationally when he captained the World XV against New Zealand in 1992 as part of the NZ Rugby Union Centenary celebrations.
Notably, Nick’s rise to the gold jersey did not follow a traditional pathway. Despite captaining every school team he played in, he did not make his school’s First XV in his final year. His rapid ascent to city, state and national selection—all in 1984—stands as a powerful example of resilience, persistence and belief.
Beyond Test rugby, Nick featured in numerous prestigious international fixtures, including the Barbarians, British & Irish Lions matches, IRB Centenary celebrations, and elite Sevens tournaments worldwide. He retired from professional rugby in 1993 and was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1992 for his services to the game.
Following retirement, Nick successfully transitioned into the corporate world. A law graduate, he worked in legal practice before joining Société Générale, where he spent four years in Paris before leading the mining finance team in Sydney for a decade. In 2010, he joined Taurus Funds Management as a Director, investing and lending globally in the mining sector.
As a speaker, Nick Farr-Jones brings energy, humility and a deep understanding of leadership, teamwork and performance. Drawing on experiences from elite sport and global business, he delivers powerful insights on resilience, decision-making and excellence under pressure.
