Nazeem Hussain is one of Australia’s most celebrated comedians and a beloved television and radio personality, known for his sharp wit, dynamic stage presence, and fearless comedic storytelling. With a career spanning stand-up, television, radio, podcasting, and children’s literature, Nazeem has earned acclaim both nationally and internationally.
He first rose to prominence as the creator and star of Legally Brown (SBS), a ground-breaking sketch comedy series that aired for two seasons and earned a Logie Award nomination for Most Outstanding Comedy. He followed this with Channel 7’s Orange Is The New Brown, working alongside Claudia Karvan, Tim Minchin, Urzila Carlson, and Kat Stewart, with sketches reaching over 10 million views online.
Stand-up comedy remains Nazeem’s first love. His Netflix special, Nazeem Hussain: Public Frenemy, filmed at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, introduced him to a global audience and earned critical acclaim from Funny Or Die and Chortle. He has performed sold-out shows at major festivals and venues worldwide, including Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre in London, Montreal Just For Laughs, New Zealand, Paris, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the US—including opening for Dave Chappelle in New York City—and Sri Lanka, where he performed to 2,500 people with the Prime Minister and his wife in attendance.
Nazeem’s accolades include Best Newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and two Helpmann Award nominations for Best Comedy Performer. He has toured Australia multiple times with shows including Basic Idiot, Hussain That?, and Totally Normal, consistently selling out venues across the country. He also supported Aziz Ansari on his 2019 Australia tour.
On television, Nazeem has appeared on The Project, The Weekly With Charlie Pickering, Q&A, Hughesy, We Have A Problem, Australia Talks, The Moth Effect, and the Amazon Original series LOL: Last One Laughing. Expanding his creative reach, Nazeem has authored the children’s book series Hy-larious Hyena, published by Scholastic Australia.
