Mick Doohan is one of the all-time great champions of 500cc motorcycle racing… he is also one of the best-known sportspeople in the world.

During an amazing career, Mick has overcome serious injury and intense competition to clinch five World Championships in one of the most physically and mentally-demanding sports there is.

While many people would attribute his brilliant success to a competitive, aggressive approach to his sport, Mick attributes it to four key principles, principles that apply equally to success in business and life in general – planning, commitment, consistency and passion.

Mick Doohan, “the Thunder From Down Under”, is the former 5 times World Champion Moto GP 1994, 95, 96, 97 & 98 of which he then became the General Manager of Racing for Honda Racing Corporation for 5 years and a consultant from 2000 – 2008 to Dorna Sports. He is regarded as one of the best motorcycle racers the world has ever seen.

He began riding when he was nine and began competing in off-road events. He was runner-up in the Queensland 10-12-year-old championship and made his racing debut in 1984 on a Yamaha RZ350.

Mick won the MotoGP world championship title for the first time when he won the 11th round of the 1994 series, the Czech Grand Prix at Brno. His victory left him with an unbeatable lead of 87 points with three races remaining. He went on to win the next four years in a row.

An accident in Jerez, Spain at 200mph caused Mick to sustain a broken leg, shoulder and wrist, and he carries plates and screws in his body as a result of corrective surgery.

· Winner 500cc World Championships 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995 and 1994;
· Runner-up 1992 and 1991;
· Debut Suzuka Japan 1989;

Mick Doohan’s sporting accomplishments have been recognized numerous times with awards including the Centenary Medal (2003), Australian Sportsman of the Year (1995-96), Australian Athlete of the Year (1997). He was listed on the Australian Sports Hall of Fame Honour Roll in 1996, 1995 and 1994; and recognized as Winner – Sports Personality of the Year Australian Sports Awards (1998).

In 2001 Mick Doohan was named the “Motocourse” greatest rider of the past 25 years and in 2007 the Mick Doohan Motocoaster opened at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast in Mick’s honour.

Mick Doohan was named the Gold Coast City Council S.M.A.R.T Ambassador in 2007, 2008 & 2009. In 2009 he was also named the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Ambassador.

Mick Doohan was inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame in 2009. Further to this, he is currently an academy member of Laureus since 2010 and more recently the Chairman and Director of Competition for the Australian Karting Association Ltd.

Mick Doohan has served on a number of boards including Rally Australia Pty Limited and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports Limited. He was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of service to the sport of motorcycle racing in the 500cc motorcycle class in 1996 and The Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for his achievements as 5 times 500cc World Champion; World record for number of wins in season and 10 successive wins in a season.
