Max Garcia is the only US Marine Sergeant Major currently speaking in Australia and is an Amazon #1 bestselling author, co-authoring his book with Joe Vitale, who featured in the film The Secret. Renowned for his leadership under pressure, Max brings real-world experience from the highest levels of military service to audiences across government, business, education and sport.
Adopted from an orphanage in Mexico by two US Marines, Max enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1994. He deployed twice to Europe before becoming a Drill Instructor and later deploying to Iraq in 2003 and 2004. During combat operations, he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and received a medal for Valour from General James Mattis, former US Secretary of Defense.
From 2006 to 2009, Max taught officers at the University of South Florida and served as a Drill Instructor for Officer Candidates. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and, in 2012, served with FAST Company Europe, where he collaborated in the deployment of an elite Marine platoon to Libya following the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi.
In 2014, Max was selected to Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank in the Marine Corps. He later transferred to Japan, deploying to multiple countries across the Pacific region. Over the course of his career, Max led the largest battalion of Marines worldwide.
Max has travelled to all 50 US states and more than 70 countries. He now lives between Australia and the United States and is married to Sydney-born Carolyn Michel. His presentations focus on leadership, accountability, resilience and decision-making in high-pressure environments, delivered with authenticity, discipline and inspiration.
