Mark Ricciuto is an Australian Rules football legend, entrepreneur and devoted family man whose journey from rural South Australia to the pinnacle of the AFL is a story of passion, discipline and leadership.
Born in 1975 in Waikerie — a close-knit Riverland town of approximately 5,000 people — Mark’s love for football was forged early. He began his playing career with the Waikerie Magpies Football Club, where his natural talent, fierce competitiveness and strong work ethic first became evident. These formative years laid the foundation for a career that would see him rise to the very top of the game.
Raised on his family’s vineyard in South Australia’s agriculturally rich Riverland district, Mark grew up alongside five sisters in a household shaped by hard work, humility and strong values. Of proud Italian heritage, his upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for family, community and perseverance. The orchard remains in the family to this day, and Mark continues to consider the Riverland — nestled along the banks of the Murray River — very much home.
Following an illustrious AFL career, Mark has successfully transitioned into life beyond professional sport while maintaining a strong connection to Australian football. He is a highly regarded media commentator with Triple M and FOX FOOTY, offering insight, humour and authenticity shaped by firsthand experience at the elite level.
In parallel, Mark has built a successful business career as an entrepreneur, applying the same principles that defined his football success — leadership, accountability and resilience — to the commercial world. He is also the co-author of Roo: The Mark Ricciuto Story, sharing his personal and professional journey with characteristic honesty and warmth.
Married to Sarah since 2008, Mark is the proud father of six energetic children — Sophie, Rosie, Nick, Joe, Rocco and Tom — with the possibility that a future Adelaide Crow may yet emerge from the family.
Today, Mark Ricciuto is a compelling speaker who connects naturally with audiences through real-life stories of teamwork, high performance, adaptability and life after elite sport. Whether speaking to corporate leaders, sporting organisations or community groups, his message is grounded, authentic and deeply Australian.
