Madeleine Morris is an award-winning international journalist and communications consultant, best known to Australian audiences as the finance presenter and newsreader on ABC’s flagship breakfast show, News Breakfast. There, she was an audience favourite thanks to her ability to communicate complex financial news in a warm and engaging manner, a skill she loves to bring to her moderation and MCing roles.

More about Madeleine Morris:

Madeleine enjoyed a long career in Australian and international media including as presenter of ABC/RMIT Fact Check, senior reporter for 7.30, AM and host on ABC radio.

Prior to News Breakfast, Madeleine was a senior reporter for 7.30, where she reported on politics, finance and social affairs, and conducted complex investigations. Before the ABC Madeleine spent 11 years at the BBC as a reporter and presenter, reporting from more than 20 countries including the US where she was Washington Correspondent.

As Development Reporter for the BBC she had a speciality in the economics, health and social issues affecting the developing world, and was awarded a bursary for a project to study HIV messaging in Uganda and Zambia. She won a prestigious One World Media Award for a documentary on India’s beleaguered micro-finance industry.

Madeleine deployed her passion for evidence-based reporting and women’s mental and physical health to write parenting guide Guilt-free bottle-feeding: why your formula-fed baby can be happy, healthy and smart. Her journalism has been published in The Times, Guardian, Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

She has interviewed Prime Ministers, Presidents, CEOs and superstars including Robbie Williams, but her favourite interviews are always with ordinary people who inevitably have far from ordinary stories. Her warmth, humour and highly attuned communication skills mean she draws the best out of panelists, and can read a room and adjust style and pace to suit the audience.

In late 2023 Madeleine decided to ditch the 3am alarm and left News Breakfast. She has since been consulting to various clients in the financial services and enviro-tech industries on strategy and communications strategy.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland, and post-graduate qualification from the London School of Economics and UTS.

She loves to MC and moderate events of all shapes and sizes, drawing on her broad knowledge and reporting experience to deliver lively and engaged sessions that audiences will remember.

The Australian Intercultural Society were fortunate to have Madeleine MC their signature Ramadan Iftar dinner event in 2019. Madeleine was thorough in her preparation whilst delivering a faultless performance. She added her elegance and class to event. Her magical touch capped off a superb evening with so many friends complimenting her silky smooth performance and felt she radiated energy and enthusiasm when she was up on stage. The AIS sponsors and stakeholders were more than delighted with Madeleine as she added her personal stories and experience at the appropriate time throughout the evening. Executive Director - Australian Intercultural Society
Madeleine offers that wonderful combination of strategic insight and care and compassion for those an organisation is seeking to support. To the Board I chaired, Madeleine brought focus on the key priorities, clever and thoughtful solutions to the challenges, and new ideas to create and enhance opportunities. Her leadership, strategic thinking, genuine warmth, and openness to different perspectives, made her the natural successor. I would not hesitate to recommend her for Board, senior executive or other leadership roles. CEO - Ardoch
Madeleine is an incredibly skilled communicator who quickly assesses the audience and recalibrates if required with the way in which she's delivering the message. She engages with people on live television and on stage with a business audience in a natural and relaxed way that only comes about because she has done all the heavy lifting beforehand. Her preparation is second to none and her creativity in finding ways to reach people and help their understanding of a subject is excellent. She was a pivotal member of the ABC News Breakfast team and would be an asset to any event or company wanting to make sure of her high level skills. Lisa Millar - ABC News Breakfast Co-host
