Karen Tighe is an outstanding broadcaster, sports commentator and MC, equally at home calling major sporting events as she is hosting conferences and corporate functions. Known for her warm, engaging style and highly professional approach, Karen is in high demand across Australia.
Karen began her career at the ABC in 1989 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Psychology at Macquarie University. She spent eight years as a sports reporter and presenter, anchoring golf, tennis and other major sports broadcasts before moving to ABC Radio in 1997 as presenter of the weekend national sports program Grandstand.
She has co-hosted ABC Radio’s coverage of the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games from Kuala Lumpur and Manchester, and four Paralympic Games on ABC TV. Karen also presented sport on ABC TV weeknight news in Perth for six years and was part of the popular ABC TV program Live & Sweaty. She is a regular host of ABC TV’s coverage of the annual Hopman Cup Tennis in Perth.
Karen’s broadcasting excellence has been recognised with Media Awards at the 2000 and 2001 Australian Sports Awards.
A sought-after MC and speaker, Karen regularly hosts major corporate and sporting events, including government conferences, industry awards, tourism awards, corporate sponsor events and national sporting ceremonies. Her experience spans high-profile events such as the Rugby World Cup corporate sponsor functions, Flight Centre National Awards for Excellence, and Surf Life Saving WA Awards.
