Johanna Griggs AM is a celebrated television presenter, sports journalist, and former elite swimmer, renowned for her versatility and professionalism across sport, lifestyle, and entertainment broadcasting. She has been the long-standing host of Better Homes and Gardens on the Seven Network since 2005 and has fronted coverage of seven Olympic Games, two Paralympic Games, and the 2022 Winter Olympics. In 2002, at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics, Johanna became the first Australian woman to solo host Olympic coverage, a feat she repeated in Torino in 2006. She has also hosted the Australian Open for 17 years, as well as major sporting events including the Melbourne Racing Carnival and Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Before her television career, Johanna represented Australia in swimming, earning a Bronze at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games and a Silver at the 1991 World Championships. She began her TV career as a panelist on Beauty and the Beast on Foxtel and Network Ten, before joining the Seven Network in 2001, where she hosted shows including Sportsworld, Auction Squad, House Rules, House Calls to the Rescue, and Australia’s Amazing Homes. Johanna has also contributed to special sporting broadcasts such as Road to Beijing and Road to Rio.
Beyond broadcasting, Johanna has been a dedicated contributor to community and charitable initiatives. She has served on the Board of Events New South Wales since 2007 and on the Board of Beyond Blue since 2014. She holds an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Macquarie University in recognition of her services to swimming, media, and charity, and was awarded an AM in the 2020 Australia Day Honours for her significant contributions to community health, sport, and television.
