Award-winning Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby thinks quickly and moves slowly. She is sardonic, laconic and her droll delivery, delightful wordplay and heart-breakingly funny, self-deprecating observations have delighted audiences all over the world.
Hannah began her stand-up career in 2006 when she was ‘discovered’ at the Hobart Comedy Festival. She went on to win the national final of Raw Comedy and followed this up with a very impressive second place in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s So You Think You’re Funny?
In 2007, Hannah won Best Newcomer at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and followed this in 2010 as the winner of the Festival Directors’ Choice Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Since then, Hannah has performed to sold out houses at comedy festivals across Australia, accepted an invitation to perform at the exclusive Kilkenny Comedy Festival, the prestigious Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe and New Zealand Comedy Festivals. In 2013, Hannah’s solo show Happiness is a Bedside Table was nominated for Best Show in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Desperate to make use of her art history degree for the purposes of debt recovery, Hannah has also written and presented three art documentaries for ABC TV and takes every opportunity to present her incredibly popular comedic art lectures at festivals around the world alongside her stand-up comedy shows.
She has also made appearances on Channel 10’s Good News Week, ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks, Agony Aunts and New Zealand TV 3’s 7 Days.
From 2011 to 2013 she gained many morefans across the country when she appeared every Wednesday night on ABC TV’s acclaimed Adam Hills Tonight.
In 2014, Hannah joined the cast of ABC and Pivot’s critically acclaimed Please Like Me for their second season as the character of Hannah.
Hannah received attention of international audience with the release of her comedy show Nanette on Netflix in 2018. Her next show, Douglas, was released by Netflix in 2020.
Deadpan, cutting wit… an assured performer
…highly entertaining…a refreshing and unique performance.
...underestimate her at your peril
