Hamish Macdonald is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster with a distinguished career covering wars, disasters, and major global events. He currently hosts Mornings on ABC Sydney and co-hosts Global Roaming on Radio National.
Hamish has earned numerous accolades, including a Walkley for current affairs journalism, the 2024 EU-Qantas Journalism Prize, and the Elizabeth O’Neill Journalism Award. Global Roaming was named Best News Podcast by Radio Today, and he was previously named Young Journalist of the Year by Britain’s Royal Television Society.
His reporting has taken him to Afghanistan, Libya, Ukraine, Japan, Hong Kong, Egypt, London, and Iraq, covering conflicts, nuclear disasters, uprisings, and the rise of ISIS. Internationally, he has worked with Channel 4 News (UK), Al Jazeera English, and America’s ABC as an International Affairs Correspondent.
A 2016 Nieman Fellow at Harvard, Hamish was appointed Expert Associate at ANU’s National Security College in 2025. Beyond journalism, he serves as Patron of the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and Ambassador for Dementia Australia.
