Greg Hire is a former vice-captain of the Perth Wildcats, a multiple NBL Championship winner, and a passionate mental health advocate. Named the 2018 West Australian of the Year (Youth Award), Greg combines elite sporting experience with a powerful message on resilience, leadership, and mental wellbeing, making him a highly sought-after speaker for corporate, government, and sporting events.
Renowned as the “workhorse” of the NBL, Greg’s professional basketball career spans over a decade, beginning with the Wanneroo Wolves and progressing through the State Basketball League before making his NBL debut in 2010 with the Perth Wildcats. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming vice-captain of the 2013/14 and 2015–17 championship-winning teams. Greg’s commitment, work ethic, and leadership on and off the court have earned him numerous accolades, including Grand Final MVP recognition and inclusion in the Boomers Training Camp.
Off the court, Greg is a dedicated ambassador for Youth Focus, supporting young people facing mental health challenges. His personal experiences and advocacy work earned him the Pride of Australia Medal in the Inspiration category, alongside his 2018 West Australian of the Year (Youth) Award.
