Born and bred in the back blocks of the Wanganui District, Glen Osborne grew up with a clear understanding that nothing comes without hard work. Those early lessons shaped his journey from country lad to rugby star, and now into his professional career.

Glen made his All Blacks debut in 1995 and went on to achieve 29 caps, including 19 tests. He was honoured to wear every black jersey available – from New Zealand Māori, NZ Sevens, NZ Colts, NZ Divisional, NZ Academy, and NZ A, through to the ultimate, the All Blacks.

His career also took him to Japan and France before returning home, where he joined Māori Television in a range of roles, including presenter of the popular sports programme Hyundai Code.

Off the field, Glen poured his energy into coaching Touch Rugby with North Harbour, guiding multiple grades over the years. As Head Coach of the Youth Grades, he led teams to three National titles, while also securing Masters National gold medals as both a player and coach. In 2013, he coached the Over-30s North Harbour Women’s team to a National Championship victory.

Outside of sport, Glen owned and operated the successful Matakana Butchery, and volunteered as an Honorary Fisheries Officer. Eventually, he answered his true calling by joining the New Zealand Police, where he now proudly serves his hometown community of Whanganui.

Glen was captivating to say the least for all age groups, his humour was fantastic and he was a joy to listen too. He was courteous with all guests and maintained a professional manner at all times. I would have no hesitation in getting him back for future functions. Hinuera Rugby & Sports
