George Kapiniaris is one of Australia’s most celebrated comedians, a dynamic actor in musical theatre, and a popular television personality. Known for his quick wit and magnetic stage presence, George is also an accomplished MC who can have audiences laughing and engaged from the moment he steps on stage.
George first rose to prominence in the groundbreaking stage production Wogs Out of Work, establishing himself as a pioneer of ethnic humour in Australia. Drawing on his Greek heritage, his comedic performances continue to resonate with audiences nationwide. His theatre credits include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the Musical (Vulgarian Spy), Nice Work If You Can Get It! (bootlegger Cookie McGee), The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui (MTC), The Queen and I, An Evening with Merv Hughes, and Guy Masterson’s production of 12 Angry Men.
On screen, George has appeared in films including Alex and Eve, Big Mamma’s Boy, Thunderstruck, Fat Pizza, Housos: The Movie, Closer and Closer Apart, and Joey, and in television series such as It’s a Date! and Underbelly (as George Defteros). He has also been a regular panelist on SBS’s The Squiz.
George’s stand-up comedy shows, including Straight Outta Compo (2017) alongside Joe Avati, Tahir, and Rob Shehadie, have toured nationally to critical acclaim, earning multiple ACE awards for Best Comedy. In Adelaide, he is fondly remembered as ‘George’, the barista in the long-running RAA commercials.
