Dual Olympian Elka Whalan spent nearly seven years at the top of Australian swimming, setting Australian and Commonwealth records. In 2001, she recorded the world’s fastest 200m freestyle and was officially ranked Number One globally. In 2003, she made history by winning gold in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m at the World Championships—the only woman ever to do so.
Since retiring from competitive swimming, Elka has built a successful career in media and journalism. She covered the London 2012 Olympic Games for Fox Sports, commentated for ESPN, and is a regular jury member on The Morning Show. She has appeared on high-rating shows including Dancing with the Stars, Deal or No Deal, The Panel, Can of Worms, Between the Lines, and Pyramid.
A confident, humorous, and animated speaker, Elka is in high demand as a keynote presenter and MC. She has hosted events for major corporations including Energy Australia, Macquarie Bank, Coles, Woolworths, and Uncle Toby’s, and inspired audiences at schools, tertiary institutions, sports awards, charity fundraisers, and even in Canberra.
Elka is also a sought-after brand ambassador, having worked with Allianz Life, Swisse Vitamins, Heinz Simply, ProjectABLE, and Little Takas. She served as the youngest board member on the Australia Day Council of NSW (2009–2011) and has been a McHappy Day Ambassador for four years.
