Andre Agassi

Andre Agassi is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, having concluded a 21-year career with his retirement after the 2006 U.S. Open. His match against Marcos Baghdatis during that tournament remains one of the most memorable in tennis history.

Over the course of his illustrious career, Agassi captured 60 career singles titles, including eight Grand Slam championships, with an overall singles record of 860-265. He is one of only a handful of players to win all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal, making him a true tennis icon. In 1999, Agassi made history by winning the French Open, and later that year, he finished the season ranked No.1 in the world for the first time. His career also saw him achieve remarkable longevity, with his 2005 appearance in the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai marking his 13th championship appearance, surpassing Ivan Lendl’s record. Agassi finished in the top 10 for 16 years and earned $30.9 million in career prize money, ranking among the sport’s all-time greats.

Off the court, Agassi is a passionate philanthropist and educator. In 1994, he established the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation (AACF), which provides educational and recreational opportunities for at-risk youth in Las Vegas. His foundation’s annual Grand Slam For Children fundraiser has raised over $70 million to date. In 2001, Agassi took his commitment to education a step further by opening the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, a public charter school in one of Las Vegas’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. The school’s first graduating class is set to graduate in 2009, a testament to Agassi’s dedication to improving lives through education.

Agassi’s humanitarian efforts earned him the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award in 1995 and 2001. Following his retirement, he has ventured into various business endeavors alongside his wife, tennis legend Stefanie Graf, whom he married in 2001. Together, they have two children, Jaden Gil and Jaz Elle.
