Steven Bradbury OAM

Olympic champion, motivation and safety speaker, entertainer & MC

Not only is Steven Bradbury one of Australia's most well-known Olympic Champions, he is also a highly successful keynote, motivational, safety and after-dinner speaker sharing his story with corporate clients, sporting clubs, schools and charity organisations. He's vastly experienced having spoken at over 800 conferences and events in 15 countries. He is equally in demand as a superb MC, conference facilitator and humourist. Whatever role he takes on stage, Steven is always relaxed, informative, entertaining and highly prepared.

Steven's victorious Olympic gold win in speed skating has been described by some as lucky - in fact, it took a lot more than just luck. Strategy and planning were also key ingredients in his success. Four Olympic campaigns and 12 years of hard slog resulted in an Olympic Bronze in 1994, 111 stitches in his leg and in 2000, a broken neck. 18 months later that same neck was supporting Australia's first Winter Olympic Gold Medal.

Steven Bradbury's story is memorable and unique, touching a chord with people from all walks of life. It is a prime example to all that if you 'stick it out' you too can be the last man standing.

More about Steven Bradbury:

Steven Bradbury's story is one of pure strength and determination in pursuit of Olympic Gold. He is a four-time Olympian, having competed in Albertville (1992), Lillehammer (1994) where he was part of the 5000-metre speed-skating relay team that won bronze, then Nagano (1998) followed by his Gold medal win in Salt Lake City (2002).

In Montreal, 1994, a race accident left Steven impaled on a skate with a cut so extreme he lost four litres of blood and required 111 stitches. He was lucky to survive. In 2000, Steven fractured his neck in a training accident. He had four bolts drilled into his head to secure a brace restricting the movement of his neck. Not satisfied he had skated his best, Steven resolved to stick with the sport he had dedicated 10 years of his life to.

Dubbed 'the luckiest gold medalist', Steven won fans the world over for the honesty and humility he showed after his win. He saw his victory as a reward not for one race, but for a decade of hard work, commitment and sacrifice.

Steven is also an extremely successful businessman who can talk from personal experience. After experiencing difficulty getting skating boots from overseas, Steven and fellow skater Clint Jensen decided to try making their own. Five years after kicking off the Revolutionary Boot Company (RBC) skaters (including Steven himself) wearing RBC boots won 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at the 2002 Salt Lake City, Winter Olympic Games. Today RBC exports to 19 countries, making custom Long Track, Short Track and Inline boots, as well as carbon fibre orthotics and custom cycling shoes.

Steven Bradbury talks about:

  • Motivation - As a skater Steven broke his neck and had his leg skewered by a rival's blade losing four litres of blood on the ice. He trained 5 hours a day, 6 days a week for 12 years to become an overnight success and the Southern Hemisphere's 1st Winter Olympic Gold Medalist. For any organisation needing an injection of passion, a lesson in persistence, teamwork, positive mindset and sustaining a culture of success, as well as a few laughs, Steven is a 'must see'.
  • Safety/Risk/Teamwork - Steven won Australia's 1st Winter Olympic Gold Medal through strategy and planning. In this OHS presentation Steven demonstrates that success in business is about minimising the risks so that when your opportunity to shine presents itself, you will be in position and prepared to be the next to 'Do A Bradbury'.
  • After Dinner - With Steven Bradbury you get a motivational speaker, entertainer and comedian rolled into one. His life story leading up to winning Australia's 1st Winter Olympic Gold Medal is motivating and mesmerizing and he intertwines this beautifully with very funny stories about, amongst other things, his childhood, meeting Richard Branson and Russell Crowe and marriage and fatherhood in a fully interactive presentation.
  • MC - Steven's vast experience onstage means he is a relaxed, informative and entertaining MC. Professional, fully prepared, down to earth and always happy to mingle with the audience after official proceedings are over, Steven's clients include AMP, Nissan, Suncorp and Telstra.

Steve provided an extremely amusing, yet relevant piece in his summation that left the audience both on the edge of their seat and in throes of laughter.

Overall from speaking to other staff members, they found your presentation very captivating, motivating, entertaining, an emotional rollercoaster and finally very amusing. You present yourself very well, your story builds well from the start and you include the audience throughout. I have seen other speakers before, but your story was by far the most engaging I have heard so far and I would have no hesitation in recommending you for any future events with Challenger or other organisations.

AMP used Steven as MC at our financial planning conferences held in the key capital cities around Australia. His MC style appealed strongly to the audience and his ability to relate some of his life experiences to the messages on the day were first class. Steven was also keynote speaker at our National conference in 2008. Bringing him back as MC for our state conferences in 2011 was a big success and I would highly recommend him as both MC and motivational speaker. He has broad appeal for business and private functions or conferences.

Please accept my sincere thanks and congratulations for the superb job you did as MC of the Awards Night at Longreach a week ago. From my previous experience hearing you as guest speaker at our National Sales Conference last year, I knew that the MC role was in the most capable hands. The result at Longreach was a most enjoyable and memorable one for all present, due in no small way to your relaxed and humorous management of the night, together with your warm interaction with the crowd.

Steven's performance (as MC) was refreshing, humorous and definitely not your traditional stand up presenter. His approach was professional and while working from our script, managed to personalize it with timely ad-libs to suit the moment. Quest run around 20 major award events each year around Brisbane and never before has our MC been in demand to sign autographs at the end of the night, Steven really aided in the success of the evening. If you are looking for Different, Quirky and Memorable, Steven could well be your man.

It was great to meet and have the opportunity to work with you on the roadshow. Aside from the fact that you're professional and very good as an MC, you are also an absolute pleasure to work with – kind, respectful and engaging. It really felt like you were an extension of our team which is important when you're on the road for four weeks!

Working with Steven at the recent SPLASH! Environmental Awards was a wonderful experience. He exceeded my expectations as both MC and guest speaker. Steven had the (tough) crowd, eating out of the palm of his hand, and at some points you could hear a pin drop. Feedback has been 100% positive and I know a number of companies are interested in having him speak or MC at their future events. Our group was male and female and all ages and everyone enjoyed the night – A huge thank you to Steven.
